The beautiful orangutan

Orangutan, the man of the forest.... Orangutans can only be found in Borneo and Sumatra these days, fossils have been found in Java, thai-malay penisula, vietnam and china. This reddish-brown haired ape is a beauty and an intelligent being, i still remember the first time i saw one in 2007, i cried and decided i never want to go back home to sweden again. hehe. But the orangutan is endangered as many of the other unique species (both plants and animals) only found in Borneo. In early 2004 about 100 individuals of Bornean origin orangutans were confiscated in Thailand and 50 of them were returned to Kalimantan in 2006. Several hundred Bornean orangutan orphans who were confiscated by local authorities have been entrusted to different orphanages in both Malaysia and Indonesia. They are in the process of being rehabilitated into the wild. But the biggest problem would be the palm-oil industry...

Heres a few videos of these beautiful beings, heartbreaking reality and some volunteer info.

  1. Thanks for helping spread the word about orangutan conservation! BOS and WOX are both doing phenomenal work to help protect orangutans.

These magnificent creatures are critically endangered in the wild because of rapid deforestation and the expansion of palm oil plantations. If nothing is done to protect them, they will be extinct in just a few years.
